Building the foundations for a life of learning

Primary School

5 to 11 years old

The primary years are when habits of mind are formed, when children discover what they love, and when confidence takes root. At Mayfair, we take that responsibility seriously. Our Primary School, grounded in the Cambridge curriculum, enriched by over 30 nationalities, and shaped by nearly three decades of experience, gives children aged 5 to 11 the academic foundations, language skills, and personal qualities they need to thrive.

What makes Mayfair Primary different?

Not just another international school

There are many international schools on the Costa del Sol. What sets Mayfair apart is not just the curriculum we follow, but also how we follow it, and the community in which we do.

Since 1997, we have been educating children from families who have chosen Estepona as their home, from all corners of the world. Our Primary classes bring together children from over 30 nationalities, which means that international-mindedness is not something we teach as a subject; it is something our children live every single day.

Our class sizes are small by design. Every child is known by name, by character and by the way they learn best. Our teachers do not just deliver lessons; they build relationships. That is what makes the difference at this age.

What does a typical day look like?

One of the first questions parents ask us is: what will my child actually do each day? Here is how a typical day unfolds at Mayfair:

Our Primary curriculum follows the internationally respected Cambridge framework, which provides a clear and progressive structure from Stage 1 (age 5) through to Stage 6 (age 11). Learning builds year on year, revisiting and deepening key concepts as children are ready forgreater challenge.

Joining us

Moving from another school? We've done this before.

Some families come to Mayfair mid-journey, moving from a Spanish state school, relocating from another country, or simply deciding the time is right for a change. We welcome these transitions, and we are experienced in managing them well. Every child who joins us receives individual attention from day one. We assess where they are academically, identify any areas that need support, and make sure they feel part of the Mayfair community as quickly as possible. Our small class sizes mean there is no hiding, and teachers notice how a child is feeling, responding with care immediately.

English - no problem.

One of the most common concerns for families joining from a Spanish school is English. At Mayfair, children typically show real signs of progress within their first term, expressing simple ideas, following lessons and building confidence. Some become fully proficient within three years. We believe immersion is the fastest route to acquiring a language, and we support it with emotional understanding, differentiated tasks and, where needed, small group sessions to give English an extra boost.

You are not starting from zero

Whatever your child's background, whether they are joining us from a Spanish school, an international school elsewhere in the world, or returning from time abroad, we build on what they already know. The transition to Mayfair is designed to feel like a beginning, not a disruption.

Cambridge curriculum

What is the Cambridge curriculum, and why does it matter?

Cambridge Primary is one of the most widely recognised educational frameworks in the world, used in over 160 countries. Wherever your family's journey takes you next, a Mayfair education will be recognised and respected.
The curriculum is built as a spiral: children revisit key concepts each year at a greater level of depth, building genuine understanding rather than surface-level memorisation. Learning objectives are clear and progressive, which means our teachers always know exactly where each child is and what they need next.
But a framework is only as good as the people who teach it. At Mayfair, our teachers use the Cambridge structure as a foundation, and bring it to life through discussion, exploration, real-world application and a genuine belief that every child can succeed.

LANGUAGES

Three languages. Real fluency. A real advantage.

For families living on the Costa del Sol, the ability to speak Spanish is not optional; it is essential.

From their first year in Primary, all children study Spanish as a language in full immersion with native Spanish-speaking teachers. Alongside this, they study Spanish Culture and Spanish History, giving them a genuine understanding of the country they live in, not just its grammar.

From Stage 5, children also begin French, meaning that by the time they move into Secondary, Mayfair students are operating confidently across three languages. In a school where over 30nationalities learn side by side, that multilingual environment reinforces the classroom every single day.

For children who arrive at Mayfair with little or no English, we provide dedicated language support to help them integrate quickly and confidently. Most children surprise even themselveswith how fast they adapt.
